Building Ford's Future Again

Storage Stories

Part 1: The Story

Step into the future with Ford’s Global Technology and Business Center (GTBC), located in the State of Mexico. This cutting-edge facility is at the forefront of Ford’s electrification vision, and it’s equipped with the latest technology and amenities to support over 4,000 employees. Ford has partnered with Aurora Storage Products, Herman Miller, and High Density Solutions to ensure that the GTBC achieves its ambitious goals.

In line with Ford’s commitment to sustainability, the GTBC has implemented a comprehensive zero-waste program. This program includes recycling, composting, and other initiatives to divert waste from local landfills. Additionally, all wastewater is treated and reused, while a state-of-the-art rainwater control system prevents erosion.

Aurora Storage Products shares Ford’s sustainability values, incorporating eco-friendly practices into every aspect of their manufacturing process. Remarkably, 40% of Aurora’s raw materials are sourced from recycled post-consumer and post-industrial materials, minimizing waste and reducing the need for smelting new materials. To conserve water resources, Aurora’s manufacturing process utilizes closed-loop systems that recirculate water. Furthermore, their operations are designed to prevent contamination of stormwater and groundwater, making a positive impact on the environment. By adopting non-emissive coating processes and eliminating the use of ozone-depleting substances, Aurora Storage Products leads the way in environmentally friendly manufacturing. Moreover, they have embraced sustainable energy sources such as solar power to run their manufacturing facilities.

The GTBC takes a holistic approach to employee well-being. The facility features ramps and intelligent elevators equipped with visual and audio aids to ensure accessibility for everyone. Employees can enjoy a wide range of amenities, including a gymnasium, cafeterias, state-of-the-art medical services, a mini-mart, and dry cleaning services. For recreational activities, there are soccer and volleyball fields, as well as green areas for walking and meditation. Ford’s commitment to employee satisfaction is evident in every aspect of the GTBC.

Part 2: The Solution

Ford has chosen Aurora’s Times-2 Speed Files to store employee medical records in the on-site medical center. This compact storage cabinet system revolutionizes accessibility with its rotating design, providing fast access from either side and doubling the storage capacity for multimedia files. The convenience and efficiency of the Times-2 system align perfectly with Ford’s drive for innovation.

Ford is making significant strides in Mexico’s automotive industry. The company recently announced a tripling of production capacity at its assembly plant in Cuautitlan, State of Mexico. Thanks to a substantial US$50 billion investment, Ford is gearing up to produce 210,000 units by the end of 2023, a remarkable increase from the previous 70,000 units. Additionally, Ford is ramping up electric vehicle (EV) production in Mexico, focusing on the Mustang Mach-E. Mexico is already responsible for manufacturing 80% of all Mustang Mach-E vehicles sold worldwide, with plans to supply North America, the EU, and China.

Aurora Storage Products supports Ford’s engineering activities at the GTBC with their versatile Wide-Lok Wide Span Shelving. This industry-standard shelving system boasts a range of shelf widths and depths, providing the ideal solution for handling high, wide, or bulky hand-loaded items. With its quick assembly and furniture-quality finishes, Wide-Lok seamlessly integrates into Ford’s engineering areas, ensuring efficient storage and easy access.
